What: Lobbying Day for Home Rule.
When: Wednesday, April 8, leaving Gainesville at 6 AM.
Where: Florida State Capitol.
Who: Us. There is power in numbers!
On Wednesday, April 8, at 6 AM, We’re taking a trip to Tallahassee to lobby our legislature against several measures that will be detrimental to our home. We need you to join us. We hope to be present at (and if possible give testimony to) the House Local and Federal Affairs Committee. We also need to lobby as many representatives (and assistants) as possible over the course of the day.
If there were ever a time for people who care about the character of Alachua County to stand up and be counted, it’s NOW. The bills we are primarily standing against are: HB1215, repealing the Boundary Adjustment Act and HB933, drastically changing local sector planning (among other things). Gainesville residents may also wish to address HB 1325, a ham-fisted change to GRU governance.
Experience tells us that good lobbying can and does effect positive legislative results. We’re behind on this, and we should have been doing it weeks (months) ago, but we’re here now. Let’s make the best of it.
We cannot express too strongly the need for your presence. Please join with us on 4/8. If you can attend, send Harvey Ward an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. There are many logistics to plan (parking, transportation, etc.) and a short time to do so.
