HELP SAVE OUR PARKS!

The State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is in the process of developing plans for our state parks.  We want to make sure that these plans don’t contain any language that would “raise ones eyebrow.”

We are asking our Sierra Club Groups to:

  1. Look upthe park(s) in your area, review their plans and attend the hearings as they are scheduled. Click here  and here for information on the State Parks, their plans and Have-a-Heart-Logo3time frames for the respective hearings. The plans are very long, about 80 to 90 pages. Some plans have gone through the hearings process and seem OK.  Main Planning Dept. page for info and hearings: http://dep.state.fl.us/parks/planning/ (scroll all the way down for public hearing schedule) Link for all Park plans: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/parks/planning/plans.htm

  1.  Click herefor wildlife areasthat the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is considering to protect. These meetings have already been PPPgoing on. We are asking you to attend any of the ones remaining and provide feedback. Link: http://myfwc.com/conservation/terrestrial/cwa/workshops/

  1. Give us feedback. Reviewing some of the State Park plans there is a lot of good information in them. Our State Chapter Parks Committee would like your feedback on the State Park Plansthe FWC wildlife areas and any you learn from the hearings. Please sendall feedback to: Darryl Rutz, dmrtz2@msn.com and Rocky Milburn, tbico@live.com,

Thank you!
