RE: C.U.P. Application #129419 (Adena Springs Ranch).
Dear Mr. Tanzler:
The CUP application currently being reviewed by your staff has been called to attention of the Suwannee/St. Johns Sierra Club. Concurrent with the timing to withdraw more than 13 Million Gallons of aquifer water per day/ came reports of extreme low flow conditions at Silver Springs (reduced 55% from the median flow of record). We are also aware that research is currently being conducted by the Water Management Districts to help set a Minimum Flow and Level (MFL) for Silver Springs. . (The MFL requirement has been state law since the 1970’s).
We are writing to ask that you do not permit this or any other CUP applications in the Silver Springs Springshed until the MFL research is completed and an MFL is indeed set for Silver Springs. Without these completed MFL studies. The District cannot know whether the proposed CUP or any other CUP can be issued without causing significant harm to Silver Springs, Silver River, or other water bodies in the springshed.
